Bakersfield Condors News Release
San Diego, Calif. â The San Diego Gulls scored three times on the power play and Sylvain Deschatelets recorded four points en route to a 4-1 victory over the Bakersfield Condors at the Sports Arena on Saturday night.
The Gulls took the lead in a tight first period by scoring on the power play. Defenseman Mike Garrow cranked a slap shot past Bakersfield netminder Joe Watkins for his 11th of the season near the halfway point of the period. The Condors were scoreless on two power plays in the first. Shots were 8-6 Gulls after one period.
Things heated up in the second frame, and two separate fights broke out at the 8:04 mark. First, Condors winger Jon Mirasty tried to lock up with the Gulls Billy Tibbitts. He didn't bite, though Mirasty earned a fighting major and 27 minutes in penalties on the play. On the ensuing five-minute power play, the Gulls were held to just two shots and no goals. They did extend the lead, though on a later power play, with Greg Barber firing home his 14th of the season. They led 2-0 after 40 minutes.
San Diego added two more in the third to take a 4-0 advantage midway through the final stanza. Sylvain Deschatelets and Barber both tallied, giving Deschatelets a four-point night and Barber two goals on the evening. The Condors did score in the third period, with Paul Willett sending home his sixth of the season, on the power play at 11:53 to bring the score to 4-1 â the final margin.
The Condors remain in San Diego for another tilt with the Gulls on Sunday at 5:00pm. All games, home and away, can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to faceoff.
