Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Mike Lee, Mike Scott, and Mark Smith all contributed a goal and an assist as Alaska cruised past Idaho 5-1 in front 6,251 at Sullivan Arena.
Lee fed Jordan Cameron for the game's first goal midway through the opening period, but Alaska frittered away four power play opportunities that could have extended its lead. Idaho tied the contest early in the second period, as Derek Paget beat Aces goaltender Dan Murphy with a one-timer at 2:11. But Lee gave Alaska the lead for good six minutes later after taking a pass from Wes Dorey (his first of two assists on the night) and roofing a snap shot over Blair Allison. Scott beat Allison with a backhander off the rush at the 15:39 mark to push the advantage to 3-1 after two periods.
Alaska played stifling defense throughout, limiting the Steelheads to just three shots in the second period and 21 for the game, but Idaho continued to hang around until the final three minutes. Smith blasted home a power play goal (his third of the series) with 2:46 remaining to finally put the game away, and Kimbi Daniels scored at 18:29 on another slapper to account for the final margin.
The Aces have won four straight at home and improved their overall mark to 24-14-3, good enough for a third place tie with Las Vegas, three points behind the division-leading Steelheads. But Alaska must wait 13 days for its next game, against the Wranglers Friday, February 6, in the opener of a three-game series at Sullivan Arena over the weekend. All three games (Saturday and Sunday as well) will begin at 7:00 p.m. Alaska Aces games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
