Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (13-4) used a middle-inning offensive explosion to beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps (9-7) 10-5 on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods offense scored nine runs over a stretch of three innings to assist Taylor Guerrieri in earning his first win in a Hot Rods uniform. Marty Gantt, Joey Rickard, and Andrew Toles each drove in three runs to lead Bowling Green to their seventh home win in eight tries to begin 2013.
The TinCaps held the early advantage, using two Hot Rods errors to lead 3-1 after one inning and a half. The Hot Rods scraped across their early run when Toles drove home Tyler Goeddel in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI-double into the gap in right-centerfield.
Luke Maile added to his league-leading sacrifice fly tally with one in the bottom of the third inning to inch the Hot Rods closer at 3-2. Meanwhile on the mound, Guerrieri faced 12 TinCap batters in his first two innings on the mound, laboring to keep the damage to a minimum. The 20-year-old Hot Rods starter settled down to retire ten of the final 13 batters that he faced over his final three innings.
Just as Guerrieri hit his stride, so did the Bowling Green offense. Rickard put the Hot Rods in the lead for good when he doubled into the left field corner to clear the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Later in the inning, Toles doubled down the very same line in left field to drive in his second and third run of the game. The five-run fourth put the Hot Rods in firm control of the contest.
Bowling Green added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Marty Gantt drove an opposite field home run over the wall in right field. Gantt's third home run of the season put the Hot Rods into a 10-3 advantage. Brandon Henderson and Matt Ramsey tidied up the remaining four innings on the mound for the Hot Rods to preserve just the second professional victory for Guerrieri.
The season-long nine-game homestand continues on Tuesday at 10:35 AM at Bowling Green Ballpark for the second contest of this three-game series with Fort Wayne.
