Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Junior Arias broke a deadlock in the eighth inning with an RBI double to give the Dayton Dragons (6-12) a 4-3 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (5-10) on a Grand Slam School Day Tuesday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.
After Seth Mejias-Brean walked with one out against Lansing reliever Ian Kadish (Loss, 0-1), Arias doubled to left field to give the Dragons the go-ahead run.
The loss drops the Lugnuts' relief corps to 0-6 on the season.
After falling behind 2-0 in the fourth, Lansing struck back with a run in the bottom half of the frame before taking a 3-2 lead in the fifth in odd fashion. Balbino Fuenmayor scored from third base on a fielder's choice and then Dalton Pompey came around to score from second on an error by Robert Ramirez.
Dayton reliever Jesus Adames (Win, 1-0) pitched 2.2 solid innings of relief of starter Pedro Diaz, keeping the Lugnuts off the board and earning him his first win of the season. Sean Lucas converted on his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth frame.
Wednesday's rubber match between the Lugnuts and Dragons is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start. Lansing will send righty Taylor Cole (1-1, 4.61) against Dayton right-hander Drew Sisco (1-0, 1.89).
