Guerrero Leads Kannapolis to 4-1 Win over BlueClaws

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Jordan Guerrero threw six scoreless innings as Kannapolis topped the BlueClaws 4-1 on Sunday. The teams split their four-game series at CMC Northeast Stadium.

Lakewood (17-18) falls back under .500 after the Sunday loss while Kannapolis improves to 16-19. The teams have split eight meetings so far this year.

Guerrero, who has thrown at least six innings in all seven starts, lowered his ERA to 1.38 and is the fourth pitcher in the league to win his 5th game.

Kannapolis scored a run in the first inning on an error by BlueClaws third baseman Damek Tomscha. In the second inning, they added two runs, one on an RBI single by Hunter Jones, and another a balk from Elniery Garica. The Intimidators extended their lead with a run in the third inning on an RBI double by Toby Thomas.

Rhys Hoskins added an RBI single in the 8th inning for the BlueClaws run.

Garcia (2-4) went five innings for Lakewood, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and took the loss. Jason Zgardowski threw two scoreless innings and Manny Martinez threw a scoreless eighth inning in his season debut.

Joel Fisher had two doubles for Lakewood.

The BlueClaws head to Delmarva to open a three-game series with the Shorebirds before returning home on Thursday. RHP Ricardo Pinto (3-1) starts for the BlueClaws on Monday opposite LHP John Means (2-1).
