Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 17, 2015) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted three players to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem and received three new players Sunday. Outfielder Michael Suiter, relief pitcher Devon Davis, and catcher Sean O'Connell will make the move up to Winston-Salem -- the first promotion to the Carolina League for both Suiter and Davis. In corresponding moves, Kannapolis receives infielder Nick Basto from the Dash as well as pitcher Tanner Banks and infielder Ethan Gross from Extended Spring Training.
Suiter, 23, is batting .246 (28-114) with four doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 16 RBI in 28 games with the Intimidators. Rated by Baseball America as the Fastest Runner in the White Sox 2014 draft class (24th round), the Hawaiian native is coming off a pinch-hit game-tying home run in Saturday's game against Lakewood. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the AZL White Sox after being drafted out of Kansas, where he earned All-Big XII Second Team honors.
Davis, 21, is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA (7 ER/16.1 IP) with one save in one opportunity in nine relief appearances with Kannapolis. He has struck out 19 batters while walking just five. The White Sox signed Davis as a free agent in April of 2014, and he made his professional debut last season with the AZL White Sox and Advance Rookie Great Falls.
O'Connell, 23, appeared in three games with Kannapolis, batting .200 (2-10) with a run scored. He returns to Winston-Salem where he hit .133 (2-15) in five games for the Dash from April 18 to May 7.
Basto, 21, returns to the Intimidators for the first time since 2013, when he spent the final 54 games of the season. The White Sox fifth round pick from the 2012 draft opened this season with Winston-Salem and is batting .146 (19-130) with a home run and nine RBI in 36 games in the Carolina League. He split last season between the Dash and the AZL White Sox, batting .266 (94-354) with 17 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, and 45 RBI in 96 games between the two levels.
Gross, 23, returns to Kannapolis after being sent to Extended Spring Training on May 1. The infielder is batting .190 (4-21) with a double and four walks in eight games in the South Atlantic League this season. Banks, 23, made one appearance with Kannapolis at the end of his 2014 campaign. The left-handed pitcher combined to go 1-1 with a 1.48 ERA (4 ER/24.1 IP) and 33 strikeouts in 15 relief appearances between the AZL White Sox and Kannapolis in his professional debut last season.
The Intimidators wrap up a 4-game home stand today against the Lakewood BlueClaws at CMC-NorthEast Stadium at 2:05 p.m. Gates open at 1 p.m., and tickets are available through the F&M Bank Box Office by calling (704) 932-3267 or visiting IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
