
Guerrero goes 6.0 scoreless innings in win

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 17, 2015)- The Kannapolis Intimidators used four early runs to hold off the Lakewood BlueClaws, 4-1, at CMC-NorthEast Stadium Sunday afternoon. Jordan Guerrero worked 6.0 innings for the seventh time in as many tries.
Guerrero earned the win (5-0) by going 6.0 innings, allowing no runs, three hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Intimidators got on the board in the home half of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. With two runners on Louie Lechich grounded a slow roller to third baseman Damek Tomscha, who couldn't field it cleanly, scoring Eddy Alvarez on the E-6.
In the second inning, Hunter Jones knocked in Toby Thomas on a single to right field. The next at-bat Alvarez reached on a fielders choice and scored from third on a balk by Lakewood starter Elniery Garcia to give the Intimidators a 3-0 lead.
Kannapolis didn't let up in the third, adding another run to take a 4-0 lead. Ryan Leonards doubled down the left field line and scored the next at-bat on a single by Thomas.
Trailing 4-0, Lakewood could only score one in the eighth and were retired in order in the ninth by Kelvis Valerio to end the game.
Jacob Morris came into the game for Guerrero to work 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing one run, on no hits, two walks and one strikeout. Kelvis Valerio earned the save (1), working 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs, one hit and one strikeout.
Garcia took the loss (2-4), working 5.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out one.
