Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Gorillas on Thursday announced plans to send right wing Joey Sewell to the Tulsa Oilers to complete a November 2nd trade for center Jeremy Kyte for future considerations. Amarillo had to make a move after acquiring forward Joe Guenther (pronounced Gun-ther) from Tulsa for Paxton Schulte on December 10th because Guenther is a non-veteran and put the Gorillas one spot over the league-mandated 18-man roster.

"Pro hockey is a difficult game and sometimes you have to make moves that you think will better your hockey club," said Head Coach and Director of Player Operations Joe Ferras. "When Joe Guenther came available, we felt he would fit in well with our nucleus here and we had to make a move. Unfortunately, Joey Sewell was that move. But Joey's a great player and we wish him the best in Tulsa."

Sewell had 11 points on two goals and nine assists in 18 games as a member of the Gorillas. He also maintained the team's best plus-minus rating with a plus-five. The forward's best game came on December 9th with a goal and three assists in a 10-3 home win over Youngstown.

Meanwhile, Guenther, 24, is a fourth-year pro and has appeared in 180 games between the ECHL and Central Hockey League. Last season, the right wing had 42 points in 59 contests for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and lead the club with 26 goals. In his career, the Buffalo, New York, native has 65 goals and 107 points along with 107 penalty minutes. This season, Guenther had three goals and an assist in 15 games with Tulsa. In Amarillo, he will be reunited with former Oilers teammate Jeremy Kyte. The two are expected to play on the same line in Amarillo, along with Bryan Lachapelle.

Coming off a 2-1 edging of Odessa at The Jungle Sunday, Amarillo sits in third place in the Southwest Division with a 7-10-2 record for 16 points. Odessa holds control of first place with a 12-7-3 record for 27 points while Lubbock remains in the second spot with 25 points and a 12-10-1 mark. The Gorillas have at least three games in hand on both of their division mates.

The Gorillas and Jackalopes continue their rivalry tonight, December 16th, at The Jungle. Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Presented by NewsChannel 10 will be broadcast on 1440 AM The Score with Gorillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:45 pm. The game will also be available at www.amarillogorillas.com and on CHLTV (www.chltv.com).

Tonight, the Texas Lottery Commission brings fans an opportunity to win lottery tickets. Then, Rico Aviation presents a Christmas party at The Jungle on the Saturday, December 17th. The Gorillas will wear special holiday jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. Both contests begin at 7 pm.

On Sunday, December 18th, the Gorillas are offering an opportunity to come out to the Amarillo Civic Center and skate with the team from 4-5 pm. The skate will give fans the opportunity to meet the players, share the ice with some of their favorite Gorillas and get autographs. The event is available to season-ticket holders for just $5 and is only $10 for non-season-ticket holders. Don't miss out!
