Hounds lose to Colorado

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (10-13-1) had too many missed opportunities on Friday night in front of a sellout crowd of 5,289 fans in the Budweiser Events Center as the Colorado Eagles (18-5-1) used a first period shorthanded goal scored by Ryan Tobler to take a 1-0 victory. The loss was the first time this season the Hounds have been shutouts and the story of the night was the 13 power plays that the SteelHounds had and missed on.

The Eagles used the high altitude to their advantage in the first period jumping all over the SteelHounds. Youngstown had some early chances receiving three power play chances but it was Colorado who used those situations to their advantage scoring a shorthanded goal at the 6:26 mark of the period scored by Ryan Tobler, his eighth goal of the season. The Eagles outshot the Hounds 12-5 in the period as David St. Germain made 11 saves for Youngstown.

Neither team scored in the second period but each had great chances that allowed both goaltender to shine. The Eagles outshot Youngstown 18-8 in the period. The big story of the period was the seven power play chances Youngstown squandered.

The Hounds had their chances in the third period including a five-on-three advantage late in the period but were unable to find the back of the net. Colorado outshot the Hounds 12-7 in the period but neither team could score.

The final shots favored Colorado 42-20 as St. Germain was outstanding making 41 saves. Paulo Colaiacovo made 20 saves earning the shutout.

Youngstown returns home for a pair of games with Amarillo starting on Thursday night with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM (EST).
