In the ninth round 162nd overall, the Guelph Storm is proud to select Christopher Brydges of the Quinte Red Devils.

Height: 6'0

Weight: 180 lbs

Position: Defence

Shoots: Right

Birthdate: Jan. 10, 2005.

Hometown: Cobourg, ON.

Oozing with talent, Christopher Brydges is as exciting as they come for 2021 OHL Prospects. Brydges is a tremendous skater, able to fly around the ice with ease. Using his great speed and skating abilities Brydges makes himself effective by pushing the puck up the ice with his great strength, and is able to race back to stop odd-man rush situations on the back end. Brydges explosiveness helps him position himself into scoring opportunities, as well as draws defenders toward him, opening passing lanes for his linemates. Brydges has a great tape to tape pass, and is able to move the puck in the offensive zone well. Brydges is not all flash however, Brydges has shown he has what it takes to play tough and become a physical player. With his great athletic ability Brydges battles in the corners and does not shy away from contact. A knock against Brydges game is his hockey IQ. Brydges is not afraid to make the big play but needs to work on his decision making skills when moving the puck down the ice. This trait will likely continue to develop as his game evolves but a conscious effort needs to be taken to improve this facet of his game. Another struggle Brydges has had in the past comes from his difficulties as a team player. While Brydges may get along with his teammates, his relationship with coaching staff/mentors in the past has been less than ideal. At the next level conflict with authority can be a career killer, and while full of potential and upside, Brydges will need to find a way to put his team first to continue his growing draft stock. Brydges game fits perfectly with modern defensemen play and if he continues his excellent play and becomes more mature as a player on and off the ice, there is no reason Brydges can not develop into a fantastic player in the near future as he continues his career in junior.
