The Storm, LETR, Special Olympics Ontario and Guelph Police are teaming up during the month of November to help raise awareness about the importance of grass-root programming on Friday, November 12th vs. the Erie Otters.
The awareness campaign is part of the ongoing commitment and partnership with the Ontario Hockey League Guelph Storm, and LETR/Special Olympics Ontario that has been happening since 2007 with the goal to raise awareness for over 26,000 athletes across the province.
"Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) thanks to the Guelph Storm and Guelph Police Service for their ongoing support of the movement. Since 2007, teams across the Ontario Hockey League have supported SOO with OHL Big Ticket Games which provide much needed funds and awareness to athletes living in Ontario with intellectual disabilities. Together, we champion inclusion, acceptance and offer opportunities to many athletes in the Region to participate and thrive in the sport. Thank you!" Glenn MacDonell, President and CEO - Special Olympics Ontario.
Since March 2020, Special Olympics athletes have been actively keeping busy through a range of virtual program offerings. Today, communities are making a return to in-person sports and programs. The OHL and LETR partners want to celebrate their return, and help raise awareness for an organization that changes the lives of many.
"Teaming up with Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the 13th season is something that makes our entire organization extremely proud. For 50 years, Special Olympics has enriched the lives of Canadians through the transformative power of sport and the Guelph Storm are thankful for the opportunity to spread this message at our Special Olympics game this Friday," said Matt Newby, Vice President, Business Operations of the Guelph Storm.
Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased in person at the Storm Box office, online or by calling 519-837-9690.
