Oshawa Generals News Release

Matthew Buckley scored twice and Calum Ritchie added three assists as the Oshawa Generals defeated the Sudbury Wolves 4-1.

Patrick Leaver made 35 saves for his sixth win of the season. He has now allowed just one goal in six periods against the Wolves this season.

This game was clearly going to be a physical contest off the opening faceoff. Both teams were finishing their checks and making each player work for every inch of ice.

Buckley opened the scoring just 5:18 into the game off an excellent pass from Kevin Niedenz. Later in the period, Dawson McKinney found the loose puck in front of the net off a mad scramble and buried it to give the Generals a 2-0 lead in the period's final few minutes.

However, Sudbury wouldn't allow that to be the score heading into the intermission, as Kocha Delic was left alone in the slot and beat Leaver with a wrist shot to make it 2-1.

In the second, it was Brett Harrison on the powerplay with the only goal of the period. With an assist on the goal, Ty Tullio extends his point streak to 12 games to begin the season.

In the third period, the Generals contained the Wolves offence to just 12 shots, not many of which were high danger chances. Buckley also scored his second of the game 6:49 into the period to extend the Generals lead to three, which is precisely how the game would end.

"I really liked our compete level tonight; the boys skated really hard for 60 minutes," said head coach Todd Miller after the game. "We wore them down and converted on our chances."

The Generals were a perfect four-for-four on the penalty kill in tonight's game. With the win, they move to 6-3-1-2 on the season.

Next weekend will be a busy one for the Generals as they take on their first three games in three days of the season. The first two games are on the road in Kingston and Niagara, followed by a home game Sunday night against Ottawa. It will be a test, but Miller is confident his team will be ready.

"We will be ready to go. The boys know important rest will be in-between games, but we will do what is necessary to best manage the lineup to give us the best chance to win all three games."
