Grrrowl drop 4-3 decision to Columbia

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl returned from a 4-game road trip on the heels of a 2-0 victory over the Lexington Men'O War, and dropped a 4-3 decision to the Columbia Inferno in front of 6,451 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night.

Grrrowl captain TYLER DEIS opened the scoring with his 12th goal of the season at 3:56 of the first period. But Barrie Moore tied the game at 1-1 with his first of two goals on the night just 1:20 later.

The Grrrowl opened a 2-1 lead when JOHN NAIL scored his first goal for Greenville :65 seconds into the second period. NAIL was acquired along with CHRIS LYNCH in last Tuesday's trade that sent MIKE HURLEY to the Trenton Titans.

In the short span of 4:21, the Inferno scored three times and took a 4-2 lead into the second intermission. Barrie Moore (13:12), Tim Smith (14:49), and Denis Martynyuk (17:33) scored second period goals to give Columbia the 2-goal lead at the end of 40 minutes. MATT DEMARSKI scored a shorthanded goal at 10:33 of the third period to pull Greenville within one, 4-3, but Columbia held on for the 4-3 victory. JAYME PLATT started the game in goal for Greenville and stopped 20 of 24 shots through 2 periods. MICHAEL GARNETT replaced Platt to start the third period, and stopped the 4 shots he faced. Greenville is now 17-22-3 this season.

The final game before the annual All-Star break is scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at the BI-LO Center as Greenville hosts Columbus at 3:05 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
