
Growlers Take Down Defending Champion Mallards 4-1

Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kalamazoo Growlers have upset the defending Northwoods League champion, the Madison Mallards 4-1.
The Growlers (1-4) all around attack led them to the convincing win over the Mallards (4-2) and helped them snap a five game losing streak.
The story of the night was starting pitcher Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame) who improved his record to 5-0 in the Northwoods League with a 2.37 ERA. The Notre Dame product allowed just two hits and struck out five batters, Smoyer went eight innings against a formidable Mallards lineup.
Smoyer is considered to be a leading candidate to be selected as a Northwoods League All Star.
Growlers batters totaled 11 hits against the Mallards pitching staff.
Nick Yarnall (Pittsburgh) went 2-for-3 with an RBI, improving his batting average to .244 on the season. Brett Sunde(Western Michigan) and Ryan Spaulding (Ball State) also added RBI's.
The Growlers improve their second half record to 1-4 and look to sweep the defending champion Mallards tomorrow, July 7th, in the last game of the Growlers homestand. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Monday, July 7th is Bark in the Park Night as well as Slice Night. Fans may bring their dogs to the ballpark and enjoy 25 cent Little Caesars Pizza slices. There will also be an appearance by Zeke the Wonderdog, who will be performing Frisbee tricks during the game.
