Mequon, Wis. - A two-run seventh and a three-run eighth by the Lakeshore Chinooks was more than enough to defeat the Green Bay Bullfrogs final score of 8 to 3.
Three doubles by three different Chinooks put the Lakeshore ahead early, but the Bullfrogs quickly answered back with a Johnny Bekakis (Long Beach State) three-run homerun in the top half of the fifth to tie the ball game up at three. Bekakis now has 14 RBI's in just 18 games played. Matt Beaty (Belmont), who scored on the Bekakis home run, finished the game 1-5, extending his hitting streak to ten games.
The Chinooks were lead by Jake Noll (Flordia Gulf Coast) who went 4-5 with four runs batted in.
Picking up his first win of the season was Garrett Brummett (Wichita State) who pitched two scoreless innings of relief of starter Cam Vieaux (Michigan State). Vieaux scattered six hits over six innings, giving up just three runs, while striking out two.
Facing just one batter, but still picking up the loss was Matt Sabel (UW-Oshkosh). Sabel walked catcher Mitch Ghelfi (UW-Milwaukee) to lead off the seventh. Ghelfi later game around to score the go-ahead run.
Starting for Green Bay tonight was Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State) who pitched three and two thirds, allowing five hits and three runs, striking out four.
The Bullfrogs will be back in Mequon tomorrow for game two of this two-game series. Making his third start for Green Bay will be Luke Watson (UW-Stevens Point). Opposing Watson, for the Lakeshore Chinooks, will be Will Headean (Illinois State). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
