Kingfish Fall in Doubleheader, Nearly Comeback in Second Game

Kenosha, Wis. - The Kenosha Kingfish and Wisconsin Woodchucks battled in two games today. The first was a continuation of a previously started game, and the second an abbreviated seven inning affair. The Kingfish were done in by two Woodchucks grand slams respectively. Tomorrow, Kenosha looks for redemption in another doubleheader with Wisconsin.
The first game was resumed in the fourth with the Woodchucks leading 5-0. The visitors pulled away early with a grand slam to put themselves up 9-0. Both Steven Sensley and Alex Dunlap had two hits on the night but could not produce any runs. The Kingfish fell to a score of 12-0.
The second game started with Steven Klimek on the mound. He was strong and went six innings with five strikeouts, but gave up four runs on another Wisconsin grand slam. The Woodchucks went up 4-0, but were silenced the rest of the evening.
The Kingfish were kept quiet early by Woodchucks pitcher Alex Pitcher as he retired thirteen in a row. King Elvis' crew was able to break through, tallying a single in the fifth but could not produce a run. They were able to succeed in the sixth however, scoring three runs to put them in striking distance. Alex Borglin led things off with a double. He then advanced to third on a fielder's choice. A single by Taylor Douglas scored Borglin and brought up Buddy Reed. Buddy Reed slammed a triple to left center, scoring Kolakowski. Pat Porter added to his NWL leading RBI total, and hit a sacrifice fly to push across the third run. Despite a final frame shutout from relief pitcher, Connor Kelly, the Kingfish were unable to bring home the tying run.
The teams play another doubleheader tomorrow, Monday, July 7th. There will be two seven inning games, with the gates opening at 4:05 p.m. The first game will start at 5:05 p.m. and the second contest will start 30 minutes following the first. Just one ticket is required to gain entry to both games and tomorrow's games will be part of Italian Heritage Night.
