Growlers Rout Rival Bombers, Take Win Streak to Four

Kalamazoo, Mich - The Kalamazoo Growlers beat cross town rival the Battle Creek Bombers by a score of 13-3.

The win is the Growlers (8-10) fourth straight as they make a playoff push in the Northwoods League South Division. The Growlers improve their record to 5-1 against the Bombers (7-12) this season.

The Growlers were on fire, they totaled 14 hits to the Bombers 9.

Newly added Growler John Brodner (Wright State) continues his solid production as he hit a bases clearing grand slam in in the third inning. Brodner went 1-for-5 with four RBI's.

Capitan and All-Star Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's.

Starting pitcher Shane Bryant (Purdue) went six innings and gave up eight hits with one earned run. Bryant's ERA is 2.79 on the season.

The Growlers head into the All-Star break with an 8-10 record in the second half. Jared Kujawa (Western Michigan) Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame) Ryan Lidge (Notre Dame) and Troy Montgomery (Ohio State) will all be representing the Growlers in the Northwoods League All- Star Game on Tuesday, July 22 in Mequon, Wisc.

The Growlers will return home on Thursday, July 24 on Salute to Selfie Night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The night has garnered national acclaim from a number of different outlets such as a feature in Sports Illustrated. Fans sent in selfies which will be shown on the special edition jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game. Also, Miller Lite will give away Detroit Tigers koozies to the first 250 fans aged 21 and up.
