
Mallards Fall Tonight in Kenosha

Kenosha, WI - July 20, 2014. After mounting a small comeback, scoring four runs in the sixth inning to bring their deficit to five, the Madison Mallards (12-9, 30-24) lost to the Kenosha Kingfish (12-8, 28-24) tonight by a final score of 9-5.
Mallards starter Tyler Buffett (Oklahoma State) went 3.1 innings in the loss, allowing five runs on six hits to drop to 1-2 on the year.
The Kingfish scored six runs in the fourth inning, aided in part by Kingfish designated hitter Pat Porter's (Ohio State) three run jack off Mallards reliever Andrew Buckley (California). Buckley gave up three runs on three hits while striking out two in his relief effort.
The Mallards were led offensively by first baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) and center fielder Will Krug (Illinois). Alonso homered in the sixth, his 13th of the year, to score Krug, who reached on an RBI single earlier in the inning. Right fielder Connor Marabell (Jacksonville) also added a home run in the inning, his first of the year.
Kingfish starter Callahan Brown (University of Connecticut) tossed five innings, blanking the Mallards on three hits while striking out three to get the win.
With the loss, the Mallards fall to 4.5 games out of first place and four back of second in the Northwoods League South Division. Overall, the Mallards are ten games back of the first place Lakeshore Chinooks and are tied for second with the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
The Mallards are off for the Northwoods League All-Star Break until next Thursday, when they resume play in a home-and-home series against the Lakeshore Chinooks.
The Mallards play one in Mequon on Thursday at 6:35 pm and return to the "Duck Pond" on Friday for a 7:05 pm game.
