Madison, WI - July 20, 2014. The Madison Mallards (12-8, 30-23) look to bounce back tonight against the Kenosha Kingfish (11-8, 27-24) after falling last night by a score of 11-4.
Mallards starter Tyler Buffett aims to sent the Mallards into the All-Star Break on a positive note after tossing 4.2 innings in his last game, allowing three earned runs while striking out two in a 7-6 victory over the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
Buffett is 1-1 on the year in five starts, and the righty out of Albuquerque, New Mexico has struck out 18 batters in 22 innings while walking nine.
He will face Kingfish starter Callahan Brown, a 6'4", 193-pound righty out of the University of Connecticut. Brown holds a 5.04 ERA in 10 appearances, and the junior out from Jupiter, Florida gets his first start for the Kingfish tonight.
His last relief appearance, Brown went three innings, blanking the Battle Creek Bombers and striking out six in a 5-2 loss.
Last night, a seven run fifth inning downed the Mallards at Simmons Field in Kenosha.
The Mallards scored three runs in the second inning, aided by a two RBI single from left fielder Tyler Allen (Virginia). Allen finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
They would add one in the fifth inning before the Kingfish came on strong in the bottom of the frame, scoring seven runs off three different Mallards pitchers.
