Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors won an exciting one at Knute Nelson Memorial Park, defeating the Duluth Huskies by a final of 6-5.
The Anchors struck early collecting four runs in the first inning. Craig Nennig would score the first run of the game, as he would come home when Duluth tried to throw out a stealing Jordan Lee at second. Just three batters later, Dalton Leuschke smashed in three on his first home run of the season.
Anchors' starter Spencer Koopmans pitched lights out through four innings. However, Duluth finally cracked the code with a two run home run courtesy of Dominic Brugnoni. Another run would score later in the inning, as an unearned run would score after a base hit by Austin Darby and an error from Anchors' right fielder, Jake Bergren, leaving Alexandria with just a 4-3 lead entering the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jordan Lee would put the Anchors' home run crown back on with a two run blast, his seventh of the season would give Alexandria a 6-3 lead.
A two out rally in the seventh from Duluth would keep the game close. A two out, bases loaded single by Michael Tinsley would leave the Huskies trailing by just one through six and a half innings.
A regular starter, Jason Zgardowski, would then come in with just a one run lead in the eighth inning. He struck out three in two scoreless innings and got a big save for the Anchors to secure a 6-5 win.
