Grizzlies Top Idaho 4-3 in Shootout: 3 Rookies Score First Pro Goals

Boise, Idaho - The Utah Grizzlies (3-1-1-0) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (1-1-2-1) 4-3 Wednesday night in a shootout at Qwest Arena as Utah opened an eight-game road trip.

"It's a great way to start off the road trip," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We have to clean up some things again, but we stuck together and got the two points."

Kevin Deeth, Tyler Ruegsegger and Marcus Carroll all scored their first pro goals in the game. Deeth and Ruesegger also were making their professional debuts in the game after signing with Utah Monday.

Goaltender Andrew Engelage, in his Grizzlies debut, stopped 41 of 44 shots through overtime and all four Idaho looks in the shootout. Brad Snetsinger scored in the first round of the shootout as Utah went first. Michael Gergen capped the scoring in round four.

Kevin Deeth, who scored 2:11 into his pro debut to put Utah up 1-0, setup Marcus Carroll with 8:42 left in regulation to give Utah a 3-2 lead before Idaho's Mark Derlago tied the game with 2:34 left in regulation.

Utah tied the game at two in the second period as Ruesegger scored from the side of the net.

Utah and Idaho continue their series Friday and Saturday in Boise. Face-off is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

Utah returns home Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20 to host the Alaska Aces at Maverik Center. Friday is Maverik "Pack the House" night. All tickets are $5 for fans presenting a receipt from Maverik at the arena box office. Fans who present military identification Saturday will receive a $5 game ticket as well.
