Joliet, Ill. - The Grizzlies lost their second straight game to the Joliet Slammers in a 5-2 loss on Saturday evening at Silver Cross Field. Gateway (9-12) has dropped six games in a row.

Gateway struck early as Craig Massoni cracked a two-run blast to right field in the first inning against LHP Spencer Medick (3-0). It was Massoni's team-leading fifth homer of the season.

Joliet responded with three runs on four hits against LHP Corey Kimes (1-2) in the bottom half of the inning. Alfredo Rodriguez's RBI triple put the Slammers (10-11) on the board and Jake Gronsky's two-RBI triple made it 3-2.

Kimes kept the score that way until the fifth, when Carter Bell collected his fourth RBI of the series with a groundout. Bell gave Joliet another run with an RBI single off Kimes in the seventh to make it 5-2.

Medick turned in a great performance for the Slammers, throwing 7.1 innings and allowing just two runs. RHP Kevin Simmons pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief to close out the game and earn his first save of the season. Gateway's offense only managed two hits after the second inning.

The Grizzlies bullpen bounced back nicely as RHP Will LaMarche made his 2016 debut and threw an inning and a third of scoreless baseball.

Gateway and Joliet finish their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Silver Cross Field. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. The Grizzlies send RHP Trevor Richards to the mound in the finale of their six-game road trip.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Sunday of www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the play-by-play call.
