April 6, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH - The Utah Grizzlies held their Annual Awards Banquet last night at the 'E' Center giving away a total of 11 player awards. Center Jarrod Skalde, escorted by his daughter True, took home four awards including the Most Valuable Player, American Specialty/Utah Grizzlies Man of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and the Fan Favorite Award (voted on by the Utah Grizzlies Booster Club and presented by Booster Club President Kayleen Newman).
The *Gord Dineen* Award went to third-year Grizzly Dan Jancevski who has enjoyed a career season posting five goals, 17 assists and 22 points while playing in every game (the only Utah player to do so). Fellow defenseman Jeff MacMillan was given the Player's Player Award which is the only award voted on by the players themselves.
The Rookie of the Year went to Mathias Tjarnqvist amongst some stiff competition (Antti Miettinen, Trevor Daley and Dan Ellis to name a few). The first-year player from Sweden has scored 14 goals with 13 assists this season for the Grizzlies and has a goal and an assist in 18 games with the Dallas Stars.
The Most Improved Player Award (from start of the season to finish) was given to rookie Warren Peters and another rookie, Zenon Konopka, earned the Unsung Hero Award.
For the third consecutive season, Justin Cox was given the Trash Talker Award and for the second straight year goaltender Jason Bacashihua won the Three Stars Award (given to the player who has been named a star of the game the most) by a narrow margin over David Gove and Skalde.
The evening also featured a live and silent auction that raised money for the National Ability Center, the feature charity of the night.
