Capitals Reassign Three To Pirates

Washington, DC – The Washington Capitals, the National Hockey League affiliate of the Portland Pirates, on Tuesday reassigned left wing Alexander Semin (SEH-min), right wing Garret Stroshein and right wing Roman Tvrdon to the Pirates, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced.

Semin, 20, spent his entire rookie campaign this season with the Capitals, aside from a six-game stint playing for Team Russia at the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship. In 52 games with Washington, he scored 10 goals and 12 assists while recording 36 penalty minutes.

Stroshein, who just turned 24 April 4, finished the season with Washington after being recalled from Portland April 1. He registered no points and 14 minutes in penalties in his first three NHL games while scoring two points – one goal and one assist – and collecting 73 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Pirates prior to his NHL debut.

Tvrdon, 23, made his NHL debut with the Capitals after being promoted from the Pirates March 18. In nine games for Washington, he had one assist and two minutes in penalties. In 49 games for Portland this season, he has totaled two goals and four assists while posting eight penalty minutes.

Portland currently posts a record of 29-27-13-7 (78 points). With four games remaining in their regular season, the Pirates hold the fifth and final playoff spot in the AHL's Atlantic Division.
