Grizzlies Fall in Extra Innings to Crushers

AVON, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers scored the game winning run in the 12th inning and squeaked by the Gateway Grizzlies 2-1 Saturday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Daniel Bowman led off the 12th with a double and came around to score on a single and an error to give the Crushers the walk-off win.

Pitcher's dominated the extra inning affair. Ja'Vaun West got the start for Gateway (1-1) and gave up just one run in five innings.

Andrew Davis brought in the only run West allowed on a third inning sacrifice fly to give the Crushers a 1-0 lead.

Lake Erie (1-1) starting pitcher Matt Rein pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing only four Grizzlies hits.

Gateway was held scoreless until the ninth inning when they tied the game. Jose Flores led off the inning with a single and Jet Butler evened the game on an RBI double.

Flores, Butler and Landon Hernandez all had two hits for Gateway.

Ryan Hartman, Rey Cotilla and Jason Sullivan combined to pitch five scoreless innings of relief.

Gateway and Lake Erie play the rubber game of the series on Sunday in Ohio. Left-hander Gregg Downing gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 5:05 EST.
