Grizzlies Escape With A 5-3 Win Over The Traverse City

The Gateway Grizzlies (18-5) escaped Friday with a 5-3 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums (9-14) at Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, MI. The series win is the first for the Grizzlies in Traverse City. It is the fifth time, in six series, the Grizzlies have captured a series victory.

The Beach Bums had the tying runs on base when the game ended.

The Grizzlies went up 2-0 with single runs in the second and third innings. Catcher Eric Beck drove in his first run as a professional with a double to right center in the third. Beck finished the night 3-5 with the RBI.

Dustin Roberts made it a 4-1 Grizzlies advantage in the fourth with his team-leading seventh home run of the year. The two-run shot gave him a team-best 19 RBIs. Roberts finished the night 2-3 with the two-run homer and three run scored.

Chris Gibson added an RBI in the seventh, reaching on a fielder's choice to score Mike Breyman. Breyman was 1-5 with a pair of runs scored.

Jonathan Armitage had a pair of hits for the Grizzlies in the win.

Toro Trevino (3-0) earned the win, going 6.1 innings in the start. He allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits. He walked three and struck out three. Eric Ridener allowed a hit and a walk, but struck out two in the ninth to earn his league-leading eighth save in as many chances. James Hertel pitch 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

The Grizzlies continue the road trip with a three-game series in Kalamazoo, MI beginning Saturday night. Game time is 6:05, central time. Chris Little (2-0) will get the start for the Grizzlies.
