Grizzlies Edge Otters for Third Straight Win

EVANSVILLE, IN - Landon Hernandez gave the Gateway Grizzlies a lead in the seventh inning on an RBI double and Gateway held on for a 5-4 win on Thursday night at historic Bosse Field. The win was the third in a row for Gateway and it also gave them the series win.

Joe Agreste helped the Grizzlies tie the game in the seventh. Agreste drove in Charlie Lisk with an RBI groundout. Hernandez then drove in Agreste to give Gateway the 5-4 lead.

Gateway (27-34) took a first inning 1-0 lead on an Agreste RBI groundout, his seventh RBI of the series.

Evansville (22-40) got on the board in the first with a Joe Spiers solo homer, his second of the series.

The Otters took a 3-1 lead, scoring single tallies in the second and third. Greg Fontenot had an RBI single in the second for Evansville and the Otters scored a run in the third on a Gateway error.

The Grizzlies scored two runs in the fourth to tie the game. Chris Sedon recorded a sacrifice fly and Brian Harris drove in a run with a single.

Ryan Still helped Evansville regain the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly that scored Alex Foltz.

Logan Parker, Hernandez and Nick Farnsworth led Gateway with multi-hit games, while Blake Barber (4-2) won his fourth straight game on the mound. Barber went seven innings for the third straight start, surrendering just four runs over the seven innings.

The Grizzlies conclude their three games series with the Evansville Otters on Friday night. Recently acquired right-hander Sean Toler makes his first start for Gateway. First pitch is set for 6:35 CT.
