July 25, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Windy City ThunderBolts took game two of a three-game set 10-4 Monday night in Crestwood, IL.
The Grizzlies drop to 25-30. Windy City improves to 19-37.
Windy City took an early lead, scoring three in the first inning. They would never trail in the game.
The Grizzlies scored a run in the second. Gary Gilbert went to second on a fielder's choice. He would advance to third on a wild pitch before coming to the plate on an infield single by Ryan Sullivan.
They went up 5-1 before the Grizzlies made a run in the top of the sixth.
Jimmy Reiter walked to lead off the inning. After Shawn Smarsh flied out Mike Breyman launched his 10th home run of the year to make it 5-3. Phil Warren and Gilbert walked before Sullivan singled to drive in Warren and make it 5-4. That is as close as the Grizzlies would get.
The Grizzlies bullpen allowed five runs over the next two innings, and the ThunderBolts came away with the win.
Sullivan was 2-4 with a pair of RBI singles. Breyman was 1-3 with the two run home run. Breyman leads the team with 10 homers and 36 RBIs.
Nathan Roush (2-4) took the loss for the Grizzlies. Roush gave up five runs in five innings. He did not walk a hitter and struck out six. Chris Little gave up four runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Marcus Barriger finished out the game, allowing a run on 2 2/3 innings.
The two teams will play the rubber match of the three-game series Tuesday afternoon in Crestwood, IL. Game time is 12:05 p.m.
