Richmond Roosters News Release

The Richmond Roosters announced that shortstop Josh Hollingsworth has been signed by the New York Yankees organization. Josh will be designated for assignment with the high Class A affiliate in Tampa, Florida.

Josh is a native of Tampa, Florida and went to college at Florida Southern College. He was drafted twice previously, both times by the Texas Rangers organization. Josh is playing in his third season with the Richmond Roosters. Currently, he is batting .282 for the Roosters this season with 16 home runs and 43 RBI. He is second on the team in RBI and is tied for second in the Frontier League in home runs. Josh was selected to the 2005 Frontier League All-Stars and was the starting shortstop for the Eastern Division.

"We are pleased to make the announcement that Josh will be furthering his baseball career with the Yankees organization," said Roosters General Manager Deanna Beaman "in addition to winning Frontier League championships, our goal is to have our players advance into affiliated baseball."

Hollingsworth is the first Roosters player to be acquired this season. In 2004, the Yankees signed pitcher Richard Barkley after an All-Star appearance with Richmond.
