Grizzlies Double Up Moose
November 30, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
Winnipeg, Manitoba â The Grizzlies continued to impress on their current seven-game road trip with a 4-2 victory over Manitoba in front of 8,060 fans at the Winnipeg Arena. The victory was the Grizzlies second straight over the Moose and their third victory in their last four games away from the E-Center.
Special teams played a huge part in the outcome of the game as Utah netted three power play goals on the night. Greg Hawgood started the scoring early in the second period and was followed by Eric Chouinard's power play goal, his second in as many nights.
Manitoba cut the lead in half with Zenith Komarniski's eighth goal of the season at the 12:28 mark of the second period cutting the Grizzly lead to 2-1 after two periods.
Defenseman Jeff MacMillan continued his solid play as of late by joining Mark Wotton on a rush after a Moose turnover. MacMillan would take a pass from Wotton and one-time a shot past Manitoba goaltender Alex Auld for his third goal of the season and second in the two games versus Manitoba. Jason King scored a power play goal of his own at the 14:32 mark of the third period but Steve Ott would put the game away for Utah with under a minute remaining in regulation with an empty net goal assisted by Wotton.
Jason Bacashihua was outstanding in goal improving to 4-5-0-0 on the season by stopping 46 shots (one shy of his career best 47 save effort on Oct. 12 in Houston). Auld finished the game with 25 saves as Utah was outshot 48-29.
The Grizzlies finished the game 3 for 7 on the power play while allowing one power play goal in five Moose chances.
Three Stars: 1. Jason Bacashihua (Grizzlies) 46 saves 2. Eric Landry (Grizzlies) two assists 3. Zenith Komarniski (Moose) one goal
Next Game: The Grizzlies travel to San Antonio to face the Rampage on Wednesday night from the new SBC Center.
