Grizzlies defeated by Mighty Ducks

Utah Grizzlies News Release

CINCINNATI, OH - It must be the chili or maybe Jerry Springer but something about the Utah Grizzlies and the city of Cincinnati just doesn't mesh. The Grizzlies were shutout for the third consecutive game in the Cincinnati Gardens falling 1-0 to the Mighty Ducks making it 184:44 that Utah has gone without scoring a goal against Cincy.

Neither team could muster any offense in the first period with the Ducks generating more scoring chances but Jamie Storr was perfect turning aside all eight shots he faced. Utah took six shots on goal but with far less quality than Cincinnati.

In the second period, the Ducks broke the scoreless tie early when Chris Kunitz took advantage of a bouncing puck in the left wing circle and he teed up a one-timer that beat Storr for his 15th goal of the season at the 34 second mark of the period. Cincinnati outshot the Grizzlies 10-6 in the period.

Defense continued to thrive in the third period as both goaltenders blanked the opposition with Utah outshooting Cincinnati 8-6 in the period but failing to get a puck behind Ilya Bryzgalov.

Cincinnati outshot the Grizzlies 24-20 in the game and each team went scoreless on special teams with Utah going 0 for 5 and Cincy going 0 for 7.

Utah will begin a six-game home stand Monday night when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at 7:05 PM.
