Grizzlies Beat Ontario 5-1

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (29-23-4-2) defeated the Ontario Reign 5-1 at Maverik Center Saturday night before 5,724 fans.

"We definitely needed the results, the guys went out and earned it, stuck together, played through injuries and that's how you get out of a slump." said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley.

After a scoreless first period, Utah put up a four-goal second period as they scored three power-play goals and led 4-1 at the second intermission. The Grizzlies tied an all-time team high with 28 shots in the period and outshot the Reign 28-5 in the frame. The first 40 minutes featured 100 combined penalty minutes, 60 of which were handed to Ontario.

Tom May finished off his hat trick 37 seconds into the third period as he buried a power-play goal assisted by Simon Ferguson and Kevin Deeth.

Matt Clarke and Kevin Deeth also had three assists in the game. Marcus Carroll had one goal and one assist. Brian Kilburg scored his first goal of the season with 50 seconds left in the second period to open up a 3-1 score. Utah went 4-10 on the power-play and 6-6 on the penalty-kill.

Tyler Sims stopped 20 of 21 shots in the game for a win in his Grizzlies debut.

The Grizzlies host Stockton Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. to start a four-game in five-night series.
