Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies dropped game one of a three-game series Tuesday night to the Washington Wild Things 7-1 in front of 3,159 at GCS Ballpark.
The loss drops the Grizzlies (42-40) two games out of the final wild card spot in the Frontier League playoffs. Washington (42-40) is also two games out.
The Wild Things took an early lead Tuesday night, scoring a run on five first inning hits. They would go up 6-0 after five innings, chasing Grizzlies starter Justin Lilly. Lilly allowed the six runs, four earned, on 11 hits.
The Grizzlies scored their only run of the night in the sixth inning. Willie Keene led off the inning with a double off the left field wall. Mike Breyman followed with a single to drive in Keene.
Keene enjoyed his best night since coming to the Grizzlies in a trade one week ago. He was 3-4 with the run scored. Breyman finished the night 2-4 with the RBI. He is now just nine hits shy of tying the Frontier League's all-time hit record.
The Grizzlies and Wild Things will continue the series with a 7:05 game Wednesday at GCS Ballpark.
