Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, IL. - The Frontier Greys jumped out early on the Gateway Grizzlies and never looked back Tuesday night, picking up a 10-6 win at GCS Ballpark.
The Greys (29-58) scored three times in the second inning, including a solo home run from Jon Minnucci. They scored six more runs in the third inning on five hits. The Greys touched up Gateway starting pitcher Kerry Kelley (3-7) for six runs in just two innings of work.
The Grizzlies (47-41) left 13 runners on base throughout the evening. The result gave the Grizzlies their fourth straight loss.
A bright spot for Gateway was a breakout night for Richard Seigel, who went 3-4 with two runs batted in. He got the scoring started with a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning.
Trailing 10-3 in the third inning, the Grizzlies picked up a run on Ben Waldrip's RBI single. Gateway cut the deficit down to four when two runs scored on an error by Greys' shortstop Chase Tucker during the sixth inning.
Greys' starting pitcher Clint Wright (8-6) came away with the win, but not before he allowed three earned runs and seven walks in five innings of work.
The Grizzlies bullpen quietly had a solid night, allowing only three earned runs in seven innings of relief. Chris DeBoo didn't allow an earned run in his two innings on the mound, while Luke Westphal struck out four batters in his scoreless two innings. Brett Zawacki and Richard Barrett both chipped in with a pair of scoreless innings.
The Grizzlies and Greys continue their series on Wednesday at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander JaVaun West (7-2, 3.64) makes the start for Gateway at 6:35 CST.
