Calgary Vipers starting pitcher Evan Greusel has been named the Northern League's Pitcher of the Month for July. Greusel twice earned pitcher of the week honors during the past month after tossing a pair of complete game shutouts.

In 10 appearances during the month, including 7 starts, Greusel compiled a 5-0 record with a 2.49 ERA. He struck out 31 batters in just over 50 innings of work.

Greusel was given the Pitcher of the Week award for July 3-9 after throwing a complete game, two-hit shutout against the Joliet JackHammers on July 7 to go along with two innings of scoreless relief work split between Schaumburg and Joliet.

He was also named Pitcher of the Week for July 17-23 thanks to a complete game six-hit shutout on July 21 against the T-Bones in Kansas City.

On the season, Greusel has put together a record of 6-0 with a 2.98 ERA in 14 appearances and 10 starts.

Greusel, who went 9-5 with Calgary in 2005, began the 2006 season with Sioux Falls of the American Association before re-signing with the Vipers in early June. He is expected to get the start for Calgary on Friday night in Joliet when the Vipers take on the JackHammers.

The Vipers also made an addition to their roster on Thursday, signing veteran Triple-A outfielder Darryl Brinkley for the remainder of the season.

Brinkley, a native of Stamford, CT, is joining the Vipers after hitting .355 with 6 homeruns and 60 RBI's in 110 games for the Tuneros de San Luis Potosi of the Mexican League this season.

Brinkley is no stranger to the Northern League, spending parts of three seasons with the Winnipeg Goldeyes and even winning the Northern League championship in 1994 with the club. Brinkley should also be familiar with Foothills Stadium after playing from 1998-2000 with Nashville in the Pacific Coast League and making visits to Calgary to face the Cannons.
