Jackhammers bring back Jose Amado

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet JackHammers signed free agent third baseman Jose Amado (pronounced: uh mah doe) who returns to Joliet where he hit .310 with 12 RBI in 31 games last season. The JackHammers also traded first baseman Will Henderson to the independent San Diego Surf Dogs for outfielder Seth Pietsch (pronounced: peach). The JackHammers begin 7-game home stand tonight at 7:05 pm. Amado and Pietsch are expected to be in uniform tonight.

This season, Amado played for Poza Rica in the Mexican League. He batted .364 with 20 home runs and 79 RBI in 106 games played. Amado started his professional career in 1994 when the Seattle Mariners signed him as a non-drafted free agent. Amado made it as far as Double-A in the Kansas City Royals system with Wichita in 1999 and 2000.

This season with San Diego, Pietsch batted a league-leading .353 in 51 games and hit five home runs with 27 RBI. Originally, the New York Mets selected him in the eighth round of the 2003 draft out of Oregon State University. Pietsch played two seasons in the Mets system before moving onto San Diego.

Henderson batted .281 with three home runs and 10 RBI in 27 games played for the JackHammers. He departs the JackHammers after starting his professional career with Joliet following the completion of his senior season at Lamar University. The JackHammers signed Henderson on June 30.

Loose Gravel: The JackHammers won the last two games of their rain shortened five-game road trip. Their game Thursday night was suspended in Kansas City and will be made up on Monday beginning at 6 pm during the T-Bones next visit to Silver Cross Field August 7-10. A ticket holder for Monday will see two games for the price of one.
