
Greenville rallies in ninth, wins in 11, 11-10

Greenville tied the game with four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Brandon Jacobs' walk-off single in the 11th gave the Drive an 11-10 victory over the Lexington Legends Friday night in Greenville. Greenville built an early 5-0 lead. Felix Sanchez led off the first with a triple and scored on Sean Coyle's double. Coyle came around to score on two infield outs. In the second inning, two Lexington errors, an RBI single by Sanchez and a two-run double by Coyle produced three more runs. The Legends came back with three runs in the fifth inning. Tyler Burnett led off with a single, moved to second on Ben Orloff's ground out and scored on Emilio King's two-out single and an error by Jacobs, the left fielder. Delino DeShields Jr. walked, and after a throwing error by catcher Christian Vazquez on a pickoff attempt, Jay Austin doubled home two runs to cut the Greenville lead to 5-3. Xander Bogaerts' solo homer made the score 6-3 in the sixth, but Lexington took the lead in the top of the seventh. Consecutive singles by Burnett, Orloff and Roberto Pena brought home one run. King grounded into a force play at second, but DeShields singled, scoring Orloff, and Austin followed with another two-run double, giving the Legends a 7-6 advantage. In the top of the eighth, an RBI single by King and an error by first baseman Michael Almanzar gave the Legends two more runs , and Burnett's solo homer in the ninth made the score 10-6 Legends. Almanzar started Greenville's ninth-inning rally with a single. Drew Hedman followed with a double, sending Almanzar to third, from where he scored on a ground out by Drew Dominguez. Sanchez reached on an error at first base by Burnett as Hedman scored from third. Coyle popped out, but Jacobs was awarded first base on Pena's catcher interference, moving Sanchez to second. Vazquez singled, scoring Sanchez to cut the Legends' lead to one, and sending Jacobs to third. Jason Chowning relieved Brian Streilein for Lexington, and Chowning's wild pitch allowed Jacobs to score the tying run. In the 11th, Dominguez led off with a single, and remained at first as Sanchez popped out while trying to bunt. Coyle walked, moving Dominguez to second, and Jacobs lined the game-winning hit off the left field wall, scoring Dominguez. Justin Erasmus (4-0), who worked the top of the eleventh, got the win. Chowning (4-4) took the loss. The series continues Saturday. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
