Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws (23-19) got a much needed victory on Saturday with 5-4 win over the West Virginia Power (18-24). Lakewood scored 4 times in the 8th inning to erase a 4-1 deficit, and tie up the series at 1-1. The win, coupled with Hickory's loss to Asheville earlier on Saturday means the BlueClaws are now just 1 game out of First Place in the SAL Northern Division.

Mario Hollands made a very nice spot start for Lakewood pitching 5 innings of 1 run baseball exiting with the game tied at 1. Lendy Castillo relieved Hollands allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings of work. Castillo was ejected after hitting 2 straight batters inn the top of the 7th inning, as was Manager Chris Truby because both teams were warned after the first hit batter. Ryan Duke pitched a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 6th save.

Lakewood was out hit 10-6 in the game, but came out on top in the end thanks to some clutch hitting and by earning a few very big walks. In the 8th, Bill Rice singled with 1 out to start Lakewood's big rally. Back-to-back walks by Edgar Duran and Carlos Alonso loaded the bases, and that set it up for Anthony Hewitt. Hewitt ripped a double just inside the bag at 3B into the LF corner. It cleared the bases and tied the game at 4-4, and Hewitt took third on a throwing error by the LF Rogelio Noris to get just 90 feet away with only 1 out. Jim Murphy singled up the middle to score Hewitt, and that turned out the be the game winning run.

Sunday the BlueClaws will start LHP Austin Wright (1-0, 1.50 ERA), and the Power will counter with RHP Jameson Taillon (2-2, 4.11 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm on Sunday.
