ASHEVILLE, NC - The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, fell to the Asheville Tourists, 5-0, before 2,233 fans at Historic McCormick Field in Asheville on Saturday evening.

After both starters -- RHP Nick Tepesch (L, 6-4) for Hickory and RHP Nick Schnaitmann (W, 2-1) for Asheville -- alternated scoreless innings through the first two and a half frames, the Tourists (55-56, 24-18) got on the board with a two-out rally in the bottom of the third. SS Cristhian Adames singled and stole second, before CF Rafael Ortega knocked him in with an RBI base hit. Ortega swiped second himself, and then cruised home on an RBI double by 2B Brett Tanos, making it 2-0.

The Tourists added two more with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. RF Kyle Parker led off the fourth with a solo homer, before Tepesch retired the next three batters in a row. Tepesch then sat down the first two Tourists to start the fifth, but Ortega extended the inning with a double. Tanos again drove Ortega home with an RBI double, putting the Tourists in the 4-0 lead.

Tepesch kept Asheville from adding to the lead throughout the remainder of his seven-inning start, wrapping up with seven strikeouts and no walks issued. However, Schnaitmann continued to roll against the Crawdads (64-46, 24-18), dealing 7.2 scoreless innings before finally giving way to the bullpen.

Asheville tacked one more tally to the lead with a sacrifice fly by Parker against LHP Jimmy Reyes in the bottom of the eighth, accounting for the fifth and final run. LHP Josh Hungerman closed the 5-0 Tourists win with a scoreless ninth inning.
