Greensboro Swarm Open Single-Site with Defeat to Westchester Knicks

(ORLANDO, F.L.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, opened the 2021 NBA G League single-site with a, 118-106, defeat to the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks affiliate) on Thursday at AdventHealth Arena at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Hornets assignment player Jalen McDaniels had a game-high 24 points on 7-for-16 shooting.

The Swarm had five players score 10-plus points, including McDaniels. Fellow assignment player Vernon Carey Jr. had his first career double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds while Admiral Schofield and Kobi Simmons each chipped in 12. Ahmed Hill shot well off the bench, adding 14 points with four made threes.

The Knicks held the lead throughout, jumping to a double-digit lead over the Swarm in the first quarter. The lead would grow as much to 18 points in the first half in large part to nine 3-pointers made by Westchester. Overall the Knicks made 17 threes in the game while Greensboro managed to make nine. Both teams shot 44 percent from the field.

Three Knicks scored at least 20 points, led by Myles Powell's 22 points and nine assists off the bench. James Young (21 points), Louis King (21) and Simisola Shittu (21) were the others. Tyler Hall was close, scoring 17 points with five made threes.

Greensboro made the game interesting multiple times in the second half, pulling within one possession. Down just a point (84-83) with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Knicks responded with a 12-2 run to keep the Swarm behind. New York was able to seal the win by shooting 62 percent in the fourth.

Greensboro returns to the court on Friday, February 12, when they take on the Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers affiliate). Tip is set for 11:30 a.m. ET and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
