Wolves Fight But Can't Overcome Long Island in Season Opener

ORLANDO, FL - The Iowa Wolves (0-1), the NBA G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves, dropped the team's 2021 season opener to the Long Island Nets (1-0) 128-131 tonight at AdventHealth Arena.

Iowa forward Tyler Cook led the team in scoring and finished one assist shy of a triple-double (31 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists) on 14-of-20 shooting in 40 minutes of play. Wolves guard Allonzo Trier added 26 points and 6 rebounds. The Wolves had 3 other players score in double digits in the loss, including Isaiah Briscoe and Jaylen Morris off the bench, with 15 and 23 points respectively.

Long Island forward BJ Johnson led the Nets with 24 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 29 minutes of play. Six other Nets players tallied double digits in the win, with Elie Okobo adding 13 points and leading the team in rebounds with 9.

Long Island got off to a strong start with a 20-4 lead and didn't relinquish the lead until the Wolves tied the game at 99-99 at the end of the third quarter. Iowa outscored the Nets 40-29 in the third quarter.

Iowa couldn't keep pace in the fourth, as Long Island scored 14 unanswered points to start the quarter. Long Island guard Elie Okobo banked in a 3-pointer with 13.8 seconds that sealed the win for the Nets.

The Wolves will take on the Agua Caliente Clippers on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6:30pm CT at HP Field House.
