Lakeland Magic and Mosaic Donate $20,000 to Fight Local Hunger
February 11, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Osceola Magic News Release
The Hoops for Hunger Program was designed in partnership with Lakeland Magic and Mosaic to help raise money to provide meals to local children in need. For every three-point shot made by the Magic at home in the 2019-20 season, $75 was donated to the Hoops for Hunger program. The program benefited KidsPACK, a local non-profit aimed at decreasing the food insecurity our students at Polk County Public Schools face. KidsPACK has estimated that it takes $300 to support one child for the entire school year, therefore for every four three-pointers made last season, the organization was able to feed one child for a year. Before the cancelation of the end of the season due to the pandemic, the Magic made 258 three-point shots totaling $19,350 donated. Mosaic rounded that number up and donated a total of $20,000 to help fight local childhood hunger.
"Partnering with the Lakeland Magic for the Hoops for Hunger program embodies Mosaic's mission to be a thoughtful and engaged neighbor who seeks long-term relationships with organizations that are making a difference in the community," said Morgan Odum, Mosaic Public Affairs Specialist. "The Backpack Program facilitated by KidsPACK has made, and will continue to make, a positive difference in the local community".
Mosaic and the Lakeland Magic have renewed their commitment to the cause for the 2021 season, and doubled their donation per three-point shot made. For every three-point shot made by the Magic in the 2021 season, $150 will go to the Hoops for Hunger program. This year the program will continue to benefit KidsPACK as well as One More Child.
"Fighting local hunger is one of Lakeland Magic's main Community Pillars and we are proud to partner with Mosaic on such an important local cause," said Hans Steinbrenner, President of the Lakeland Magic. "We have seen the tremendous impact of the Hoops for Hunger program on the lives of children in our community and are grateful to continue the fight against food insecurity in our own backyard."
The Lakeland Magic 2021 season tips off at a single site location at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort on February 11th at 7:30 PM.
