GreenJackets split doubleheader with 'Hoppers

Augusta, Ga. - In Game 2, Aaron Hornostaj drew a bases loaded walk off Greensboro starter David Humen, driving in Brian Horwitz for a 3-2 lead. After the walk, Humen was thrown out for arguing. Pitching coach Steve Foster was also thrown out for arguing obsessively. Pinch hitter Simon Klink singled through the hole into left field, driving in Carlos Sosa for a 4-2 lead. Jon Armitage added a solo home run for the GreenJackets in the fourth.

Anthony Moreno pitched three innings for Augusta in relief, striking out five for his sixth win of the season. Craig Whitaker gave up a run in the seventh but picked up his third save of the season.

In Game 1, GreenJackets starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez, winner of his last two starts, ran into trouble in the first inning, giving up four runs and five hits. Sanchez allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. Jared Gaston led off the game with a walk and went to second on Brian Cleveland's single. J.T. Restko hit a bloop single to center that Gaston had to wait and see if it dropped. Upon the ball dropping in front of center fielder Alex Requena, Requena made a wild throw to third. Gaston went to third and tried to score but Sanchez was backing up the play and threw home, nailing Gaston at the plate. Cleveland went to third and Restko went to second on the wild play and Cleveland was driven in on Brad McCann's single to left. Restko moved to third and he was driven in on Steve Gendron's single, making the game 2-0. With runners on first and second, Brett Carroll hit a bloop single to left, driving in McCann. After Andy Jenkins struck out with runners on first and third, Brett Carroll was picked off in a run-down however stayed in it long enough for Gendron to score before he was tagged out.

The GreenJackets scored once in the third and twice in the fourth. However, Greensboro answered back with three in the fifth. The GreenJackets answered back with one in the fifth and one in the sixth however it was enough. Aaron Hornostaj homered for the GreenJackets and added an RBI double. Jason Columbus also had two hits for Augusta.
