GREENVILLE, SC - Chris Turner had three hits and scored twice while Scott Shoemaker won a fourth straight decision as Greenville downed the Columbus Catfish, 8-3, on Saturday. In front of a "Shoeless Joe Jackson Night" crowd of 3,509, the Bombers won a second straight game and evened their homestand record at 2-2.

Shoemaker, making his sixth start since coming off the disabled list in mid-June, allowed just two runs on four hits over six innings. The righthander out of Long Beach State gave up two first inning runs and then shut the Catfish down for the remainder of his stint. Shoemaker (6-2) punched out seven batters while walking just two.

Left fielder Lucas May gave Columbus the Catfish the initial lead with a two-out RBI single in the first. Shoemaker then retired 14 of the final 16 batters he faced.

The Bombers were held scoreless through the first three frames by lefthander Scott Elbert (4-5), who wound up yielding just one earned run over five innings in suffering the defeat. The Bombers used two unearned runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. With one out, Andrew Pinckney reached base on a fielding error by first baseman Dan Batz.

Turner, who wound up 3-for-4 with a two doubles, singled with two out to put runners at the corners. After a walk by Salvador Paniagua loaded the bases, Elbert walked Austin Easley and gave up an RBI single to Christian Lara to even the score at 2-2.

Greenville claimed the lead for good in the fifth inning. Center fielder Jeff Corsaletti opened the inning with a single, extending his hit streak to 12 games. Corsaletti would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Pinckney to put the Bombers ahead, 3-2.

A three-run sixth inning blew the game open for the Bombers. Dirimo Chavez' two-run double off reliever Brian Akin capped the rally. Claudio Arias and Paniagua chipped in with solo homers in the seventh to make it 8-2. Arias now has hit a home run in three consecutive games.

The Bombers continue their eight-game homestand on Sunday at 6:05pm when they play host to the Hickory Crawdads in the opener of a four-game series. Righthander Ryan Schroyer (3-3) will make a spot start for Greenville.
