Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. - A large crowd packed Historic Grayson Stadium for the third straight night Saturday for the final game of the Gnats series against Asheville. They went home happy as Savannah downed the Tourists 6-2 to earn a split of the set. Outfielder Marvin Lowrance, who spent nearly three months on the Savannah disabled list, served as the Gnats offensive catalyst knocking in four runs. With teammate Rogearvin Bernadina and Seth Bynum at first and second in the third inning, Lowrance lined a double to deep left-center field to put Savannah up 2-0. Bernadina and Bynum reached base to lead off the fifth, and Lowrance again answered the bell, driving home Bernadina with the Gnats third run. Bynum and Lowrance would score later in the frame to cap off a three-run inning and put Savannah up by three. In the sixth, Bynum walked and advanced to third on a wild pitch that at first appeared to hit Lowrance. Two pitches later, Lowrance lined a single up the middle plating Bynum again and putting Savannah ahead 6-2. On the mound, right hander Andy Baldwin was lights out for most of the night. Baldwin retired the first ten Tourists in order before surrendering a two-run homer off the bat of Asheville's Kyle Wilson in the fourth. It was Baldwin's second consecutive solid outing for Savannah and his second win in as many starts. Savannah closes out the home stand with a four-game set against Augusta starting Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.sandgnats.com, or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
