CHARLESTON, SC - The Augusta GreenJackets rattled off 10 consecutive runs and defeated the Charleston RiverDogs in a 14-3 two-hitter on Sunday in front of 3,980 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in South Atlantic League action. RiverDogs designated hitter Kale Sumner tossed two shutout innings of relief in his professional pitching debut, retiring all six batters he faced.

The RiverDogs dropped to 14-16 in the second half and 47-53 this season. The GreenJackets snapped Charleston's four-game win streak and improved to 14-17 and 48-51, respectively. The time of game was three hours and 15 minutes, which did not include a 69-minute rain delay.

Charleston claimed a quick 1-0 lead during the first inning. On the first pitch of the inning, Michael O'Neill doubled to left field. A wild pitch to Tyler Wade moved O'Neill to third base, and a groundout by Wade scored O'Neill.

In the top of the second, Augusta surged ahead for a 2-1 advantage. Back-to-back walks and a single promptly loaded the bases. Gabriel Cornier was hit by a pitch, forcing in Jeremy Sy to tie the game. The next batter, Rando Moreno, grounded into a force out that scored Rafael Rodriguez and gave the GreenJackets the lead.

Augusta's go-ahead rally was followed by a rain delay. The delay lasted for one hour and nine minutes before the game resumed in the bottom of the second inning.

The GreenJackets added one run in the top of the third. Tyler Horan worked a one-out walk and stole second base prior to a single by Sy that pushed Horan to third base. Rodriguez grounded into a force out attempt with Horan scoring on the play to give Augusta a 3-1 lead.

A seven-run fourth inning increased Augusta's lead to 10-1. The first seven batters reached safely during the frame. Within that stretch, Ross singled to drive in Cristian Paulino and Horan blasted a three-run home run, his 13th round tripper of the season. Later in the frame, Sy scored on a wild pitch and Moreno drove in two runs with a single.

During the sixth inning, Dustin Fowler went deep and cut the deficit to 10-3. After a leadoff walk by Wade, Fowler launched his ninth home run, which was a two-run shot. Fowler's home run and O'Neill's first-inning double were Charleston's only hits in the game.

Augusta responded with a four-run rally with one out in the top of the seventh. Ryder Jones collected a ground-rule double and scored on a single from Ross. Horan singled ahead of Sy, who lifted a three-run blast for his ninth home run this season, giving Augusta a 14-3 lead.

In the final two innings, Sumner made his pitching debut. Sumner, who has caught and played the corner infield and outfield positions in his professional career, retired six straight batters over the eighth and ninth innings. During those frames, the public address system frequently played "We Once Were Warriors" by Hawaiian Teddy Bear, Sumner's walk-up song as a hitter.

GreenJackets reliever Raymundo Montero earned his first win of the season, improving to 1-3 following three scoreless and hitless innings. RiverDogs Omar Luis was charged with the loss and slid to 2-4 this season. Augusta also had a position player pitcher as Eric Sim, a catcher who did not start on Sunday, pitched a perfect ninth inning and struck out Sumner to end the game.

BALLPARK FUN: The RiverDogs pulled out all the stops on Pirates and Princesses Night at The Joe. Blackbeard's Cove supplied pirates that roamed around the ballpark while Glass Slipper Productions provided a pregame meet and greet with their Snow Queen and Snow Princess.
