Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

CHICAGO (July 20, 2014) - The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contract of former Kannapolis Intimidators reliever and current Charlotte Knights right-handed pitcher Taylor Thompson prior to today's White Sox game against Houston, making Thompson the 79th player to go from Kannapolis to the Major Leagues since 1995 and the 55th since the Intimidators became a White Sox affiliate in 2001.

Thompson, 27, spent the 2010 season with Class A Kannapolis. A 44th round pick by the White Sox in the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft, he went 0-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 18 relief appearances for the Intimidators. On August 20, 2010, Thompson threw a hitless inning to record a save as part of a combined no-hitter against the Hickory Crawdads, at the time the first Intimidators no-hitter in seven years. He spent 2011 with Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem, split the 2012 season between Wintson-Salem and Double-A Birmingham, and opened 2013 with Birmingham before earning a mid-season promotion to Triple-A Charlotte.

This season with Charlotte, Thomopson is 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA with six saves in six opportunities over 31 appearances. He is the second former Intimidators player to reach the Major Leagues in 2014, joining Carlos Sanchez - an Intimidators infielder in 2011 - who had his contract purchased by the White Sox one week ago.
