Green Bay Finds Themselves at a Crossroads

Green Bay Rockers News Release

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Bullfrogs enter Sunday's contest with Kalamazoo under .500 for the first time since losing on opening night at Joannes Stadium. The first half ends at the end of the month, allowing Green Bay time to make their move with seventeen games still to be played.

Last weekend, the team made a trip to Madison tied for first place at 7-3. Since then, the team has gone 2-8 and no longer has catcher Jamie Ritchie, who left the team after being drafted in the 13th round of the 2014 MLB First Year Player Draft.

Despite this, the team is still just 3.5 games back of first place in the Northwoods League South Division. Green Bay still has games against three of the four teams ahead of them in the standings as well, and can push Kalamazoo two games behind them with a victory today.

The club is looking to start a win streak with Corey Fischer (Madison College) on the mound. Fischer made his first start with the team last Sunday, a victory over Lakeshore, who was in first place at the time of the matchup. In his debut, Fischer tossed six innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out four, earning the win.

Kalamazoo counters with starting pitcher Nick Wernke (West Virginia) as they shoot for the series sweep and three-in-a-row overall. Wernke has struggled to this point of the season, with a 0-2 record and 5.25 ERA in 12 innings pitched this season. He has surrendered 13 hits and 10 walks in those 12 innings, yielding a 1.92 WHIP. He has not allowed more than four earned runs in any start, however, and has struck out 10 batters this season.

First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 central time. This is just the second ever meeting between the two clubs in Kalamazoo. Green Bay leads the season series 2-1.
