
Mallards Aim to Stay Atop Standings in Matinee

Madison, WI- June 15, 2014. The Madison Mallards (12-6) will look to build upon their win yesterday against the Wisconsin Woodchucks (10-7) in today's afternoon game at 3:05 pm. The Mallards moved into first place with the win after the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-7) lost to the La Crosse Loggers (12-7) last night.
On the bump tonight for the Mallards is Christian Taugner (Brown). The 6'2", 180-pound righty aims to maintain the Mallards standing atop the leaderboard against Woodchucks starter Andy Ravel (Kent State). Taugner (1-0) has pitched 14.1 innings in three starts for the Mallards, highlighted by a shutout in five innings of work on May 28th to earn his first win of the year.
Ravel, a freshman out of Sinking Springs, PA has yet to appear for the Woodchucks this year. He appeared in 13 games this season for the Flash, holding a 2.78 ERA in 35.2 innings pitched and giving up 27 hits while striking out 31.
Last night, the Mallards beat the Wisconsin Woodchucks by a score of 5-2. Pete Alonso (Florida) hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the club to their 12th win of the season. Rob McDonnell (Illinois) received the win, pitching five innings and giving up two runs on nine hits. Tim Black (Central Michigan) got his Northwoods League leading fifth save of the year after coming on in the eighth and ninth to shut down the Woodchucks, giving up no runs on two hits.
The Mallards travel to the Kapco Park in Mequon tomorrow to play the Lakeshore Chinooks (11-7) in a doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 4:05 pm, and game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Each game will be seven innings.
The team returns home to start a three game home stand on June 17th against the Chinooks at 7:05 pm. Tuesday night is Superhero Night, and kids 12 and under in costume get a free standing room only ticket. It is also Rayovac Night with a Rayovac Giveaway.
