FISHKILL, N.Y. (August 25, 2009) - The Renegades come out on top defeating the Tri-City ValleyCats 2-1, Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Hudson Valley's starter, Kyle Lobstein, put together a solid outing holding the ValleyCats to just two hits over seven innings on the night. The two hits on the night set a career low for Lobstein and the seven scoreless innings dropped his ERA to 2.79, the first time this season his ERA has fallen below 3.00.

The Renegades cracked the scoreboard first plating a run in the home half of the third. With runners on first and second Brett Nommensen grounded to the first baseman who looked to turn two. Tri-City was able to get the out at second but was unable to finish the double play. Diogenes Luis started the play on second and was able to cross home as the ValleyCats attempted to twist two. Luis' run gave Hudson Valley a one-run lead that they would never let go of.

The Renegades added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth bringing the score to 2-0, in favor of Hudson Valley. With one out and runners on first and second, Manager Brady Williams, called for the double steal. As the runners took off the ValleyCats pitcher let a pitch get away from him which fly to the backstop. The runners advanced an extra base on the wild pitch and brought the score to 2-0 Renegades.

The Renegades brought in closer Zach Quate to throw the final two innings of the contest. Quate threw a one-two-three eighth before braking allowing his first earned run of the season in the ninth. With one out and runners on second and third, Erik Castro grounded out to Luis at shortstop allowing the ValleyCats lone run of the night to cross home.

The two innings of one-run baseball gave Quate his 10th save of the season and increased his ERA to 0.41. Quates' 10 saves ties him for second most saves in the New York Penn-League.

The Renegades take on the Tri-City ValleyCats tomorrow night for the final game of the three-game series. The ValleyCats will be giving the ball to southpaw Dallas Keuchel (1-2, 1.94) and the Renegades will be sending New York-Penn League strikeout leader Alexander Colome (6-2, 2.09) to the mound.
